Trailsmen Rod and Gun Club (TRGC)
RANGE RULES
The Club Range Rules were revised and approved by the by the membership at the May 10th 2022 meeting.
GENERAL- The Club Range Rules are in effect throughout the property and must be obeyed at all times.
- All members and guests must sign in the log book in the handgun shack.
- There is a 10$ fee for guests to be deposited in the box provided in the handgun shack.
- Members are responsible to supervise their guests at all times.
- Obey all posted signage.
- Eye and ear protection must be used at all times.
- All members and guest must be behind the firing line when shooting in taking place.
- Range officers must be respected and obeyed when on the range.
- Shooting times are from 7 a.m or sunrise (whichever is later) until sunset.
- No alcoholic beverages or illegal substances are permitted in the property.
- The use of TRACER, INCENDIARY, EXPLOSIVES or AMMUNITION is PROHIBITED.
CARDINAL RULES
In addition to the Club Range Rules, please fallow the age-old “Cardinal Rules” whenever you are handling firearms:
- Treat all firearms as if they are loaded.
- Keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction at all times (never point at something you are not willing or permitted to destroy).
- Keep your finger OFF the trigger and OUT of the trigger guard until you are ready to fire.
- Be awareb of your surrounding, your environment, your target and what lies beyond it.
SAFETY TABLES
- The TRGC provides safety tables located the behind the firing lines for the purpose of boxing and unboxing firearms only.
- Do not store, repair or perform gunsmithing on the safety tables.
- At no time is ammunition to be present on the safety tables.
RANGE SAFE / GREEN
“The range is safe” will be called once the range Officer (if present) is confident that all firearms are secured.
- At this time it I safe to go down the range to check or change targets.
- No shooters are permitted to step up to the firing line when the range is declared safe.
- Handling of firearms is NOT permitted at this time.
UNBOXED FIREARMS
- When not shooting, unboxed firearms must be carried in one of te following conditions:
- Unloaded. Action open, barrel facing down range.
- Unloaded. Action open, barrel facing upwards (high carry)
- Unloaded. Action closed, firearm holstered.
CEASEFIRE
- When called, shooters will immediately ceasefire.
- Unload. (No rounds will be in the chamber until ready to fire. Firearms can only be loaded on the firing line.)
- Open actions.
- Always point the muzzle in a safe direction- either lay the firearm on the bench muzzle down range or muzzle up in the rifle stand.(A muzzleloader will be considered unloaded when there is no powder in the barrel, no cap on the nipple and no powder in the flash pan.)
- Step behind the ceasefire line.
- A person may set up or remove equipment from firing line only when “the range is hot”.
- Firearms will not be handled during a cease fire.
- During a ceasefire, removal of firearms from the range area is only permitted with the Range Officer’s supervision.
- A Range Officer or the person in charge of the line will inspect the firing line to ensure all the firearms are unloaded with actions open. When they have determined that the firing line is safe, the command will be given to allow people to go down range to check targets
- A Range Officer or the person in charge of the firing line will inspect the range to ensure all shooters have returned to the firing line. When they have determined that the range is safe, the command will be given “the range is hot”.
- Only then may handling of the firearms and equipment resume.
ACTION RANGE
- A GREEN FLAG must be raised when the range is inactive or safe. A RED FLAG must be raised when the range is active and firing is taking place.
- This action range is designed for Handgun / Rifle / Shotgun (slugs only).
- Handgun may be carried UNLOADED, in a holster on this range.
- Firearms must be UNLOADED, actions open and laid on the bench facing downrange when the targets are being checked. Do not leave firearms unattended!
- When more then one shooter is using the range, one person must act as a Range Officer.
- All targets must be as close to the berm as possible and all shots must be directed into the backstop.
- All shooting must be done forward on the line of fire.
- Members have priority over guests for shooting positions.
- Steel targets shall be shrouded to capture bullets splatter (shrapnel):
- PISTOLS engagements must be a minimum of 10 meters from target
- AMMUNITION steel Core and / or Armor Piercing ammunition is strictly prohibited!
- 10.Glass and plastic bottles are not allowed as targets.
- 11.All targets must be removed and all spent cartridge casings must be collected and disposed of.
- 12.Place all targets and props stand back to the appropriate storage area.
25, 50, 10, 200 YARDS AND PRS RANGES (HANDGUN, RIFLE, SHOTGUN)
- A GREEN FLAG must be raised when a ceasefire has been called, indicating the the range is “safe”. A RED FLAG must be raised when firing is taking place.
- Firearms must be unloaded, action open and laid on the bench (or in the provide stands) when targets are being checked. Do not leave firearms unattended!
- The carry of handguns (unloaded and holstered) is only permitted on the range.
- When more then one shooter is using the range, one person must act as the Range Officer.
- Whenever possible, two or more people should be present when shooting is taking place.
- Firring of rifles and shotguns (with slugs only) must be done behind the firing line.
- Members have priority over guests for shooting stations. A member must relinquish his own station to his guest if other members are present. Only one guest can shoot at a time.
- Muzzle loaders are considered to be unloaded if they are uncapped / unprimed in an emergency situation.
- Shooting must be directly in line with targets. Cross-lane firing is not permitted. Your shooting station number must match that of you target.
- 10.Peper targets only! Glass bottles, cans and other garbage have no place on the range. Targets gongs have been provided.
- 11.Handgun range only permits rim fire / pistol / calibers carbine shooting.
- 12.All paper targets and spent cartridges must be collected and disposed of at the end of your shooting session. Containers for both have been provided.
